BLOOM is at once a noun, (embodying a fleeting moment of delicate beauty in the form of a flower) and an action word/directive – the act of coming into being, of flourishing, to blossom – bloom!

This installation plays with both noun and verb, taking elements from the artist’s past and combining same with recent images from visits to the Bellevue Park Greenhouse in Sault Ste. Marie where exotic nature thrives in the midst of a challenging northern environment. For the artist, herein lie the metaphors of living and aging with a life-threatening genetic disorder that is invisible to the outside world but demands constant testing and re-evaluation, challenging one to live with hope and purpose in the moment.

BLOOM est à la fois un nom (incarnant un moment fugace de beauté délicate sous la forme d'une fleur) et un mot d'action/directive - l'acte de naître, de s'épanouir - fleurir !

Cette installation joue à la fois avec le nom et le verbe, prenant des éléments du passé de l'artiste et les combinant avec des images récentes de visites à la serre du parc Bellevue à Sault Ste. Marie où la nature exotique prospère au milieu d'un environnement nordique difficile.

Pour l'artiste, se trouvent ici les métaphores de vivre et de vieillir avec une maladie génétique potentiellement mortelle qui est invisible pour le monde extérieur mais qui exige des tests et une réévaluation constants, mettant au défi de vivre avec espoir et un but dans l'instant.
